The edges of the glass panes are sealed with translucent double-sided adhesive tape, which both contains the liquid resin and sets the thickness of the interlayer. The resin is then pumped into the cavity, spreading evenly even across uneven surfaces. Once the air has been removed, corners and any drilled holes are sealed with translucent silicone to stop the resin escaping, and the glass is cured under UV lamps for around 20 minutes. CIP is particularly well suited to curved and domed glass where high optical clarity is needed.

A film of EVA, up to 2.4 metres wide, is sandwiched between two glass sheets. A vacuum draws the sheets together before heat is applied to soften the film and bond it to the glass.

EVA offers high tensile strength, strong transparency, excellent cohesion, and good resistance to temperature change, humidity and long-term wear. It’s well suited to damp environments like shower screens and wet rooms, and is widely used where extra safety, security or sound insulation is needed, indoors or out.

Laminated safety glass offers far greater impact resistance than standard glass — testing shows it can be around 30 times more resistant to intrusion than conventional toughened glass, and tough enough to withstand sustained attack from heavy or sharp weapons. Where toughened glass might only resist an aggressive attack for one or two seconds, laminated glass can hold out for 20 to 30 seconds.
